A total of 16 tracks were preselected to take part in the competition. This article reviews the top 5 ranked tunes.

1. Romeo Knight - The Song That Was Played Live Yesterday
This song raised some controversy. It was entered into the compo despite (as the title suggests) being played live on stage during RK's performance with Xerxes and drummer Bendik. The question was, is this a breach of the explicit rule that no previously released works are eligible for the competition?
Regardless of the interpretation of "released", the organizers were lenient, and the track competed anyway. Romeo Knight delivered a distinctive track, combining rock with electronica as we have come to expect from him. The production standard is very high. It starts off with a relaxed pace with atmospheric pads, then a sudden transition to hard and heavy headbanging material :). This went really well with the crowd during RK's live performance, although when listening to the track in private I feel it's a bit too sudden. But by any standard this is top-notch work, and the win was deserved.

2. Glxblt - Start a War
Glxblt made a phat drum 'n bass track for MFX's Breakpoint invitation demo. And indeed his compo entry has been made in this style as well. Or at least the kicking drums are still there, but overall it's perhaps a bit softer with more emphasis layed on the pads and leads. Although I have little beef terms of composition and production, it could've done with perhaps some catchy riffs/hooks, anything to make it slightly more memorable.

3. Wayfinder - The Dreaming Void
Not too unexpectedly, Wayfinder turned up with a trancy contribution. This track shows again why he is considered to be among the best demoscene musicians working in this genre. Surely it's a trance tune done "by the book", but Wayfinder does nothing particularly wrong here. If you're into this style, definitely grab this tune.

4. Drumhead - Cluster Bomb
Another drum 'n bass track, this time around definitely harder, with lots of focus on the beats and a good dose of bass to boot. Material to heavily bounce to on a Friday night with some beers within reach, but perhaps less suitable for a compo.

5. Keith303 - Stuck in the Beehive
A thoroughly catchy piece of music! It start out with a strange electronic polka-like part, which morphs into atmospheric dnb. Clever use of effects and enough variation in the arrangements keeps your attention.
The tune was originally tracked in Renoise for round 36 of the online Soundevotion Compo. The almost 10 minutes long original was then cut down to 4:00 for the purpose of entering the BP compo. Definitely my top recommendation of the competition!
